Why take Omega 3s?
Omega 3 fatty acids are essential nutrients that cannot be produced by the body and must be obtained from the diet or through supplementation. Omega 3s (EPA, DHA, ALA) help support and are important for various body functions (heart health, brain health, eye health, joint health, skin health and cellular health).
What are the differences between the two Omegas?
Both products offer highly concentrated fish oil (EPA, DHA, ALA), 3 times greater omega absorption and provide ALA omega source from organic White Chia Seed oil grown on Nutrilite™ partner farms*. Both omegas also are made with a Friend of the Sea®‡ certified sustainable fish oil blend. However, each omega offers a distinct amount of omega 3 fatty acids and associated health benefits. Nutrilite™ Omega supports brain, heart and cellular health with over 500 mg of EPA, DHA & ALA.† Nutrilite™ Advanced Omega supports brain, heart, eye, joint, skin and cellular health with over 1,000 mg of EPA, DHA & ALA.†
Are there any interactions between this product and certain medications?
Fish oil supplements are not recommended for individuals taking anticoagulants (blood thinning medications), anti-inflammatory medications or individuals with known suspected bleeding disorders. Omega 3 fatty acids may interact with anticoagulants, such as aspirin, warfarin and Coumadin – potentially resulting in prolonged bleeding times. Please consult with a physician for further advice.
Is there a recommendation on how many Omegas to consume?
There is general scientific agreement that individuals should consume more omega 3 and fewer omega 6 fatty acids. The World Health Organization recommends that people consume 1–2% of their daily energy intake from omega 3 fatty acids. The American Heart Association recommends that adults consume fatty fish at least two times per week. These recommendations suggest that adults are consuming anywhere from 190–500 mg of omega 3 per day. Those who do not consume seafood may fall short of that, and supplementation is a great way to fill this need.
